Orange CA Watermark issues

When postal rates increased by a penny on the 1st October 1920, the interstate telegraph rate also changed to 1/4d. The opportunity was taken at this time to make a single denomination rather than the usual two stamps needed for this make up value. While primarily used for telegraphs, it was a useful parcel post denomination.

This denomination is the simplest of all the KGV issues, appearing only on a single electro throughout it’s life. A standard plate was manufactured by TS Harrison, naturally, without Jubilee lines, using a secondary die derived from a Type A blank working die.

Note that while this stamp replaced the 1/- Kangaroo of the same color for interstate telegraph. The Kangaroo continued to be printed, (still in this color) for intrastate telegraph parcel rates.
